monthly cycle (average of 28 days); 3 phases are follicular phase, ovulation phase, and luteal phase (includes menstrual cycle)

fragile; can only be fertilized in first 12-24 hours after being released

“Maidenhead”; thin membrane that stretches across the vaginal opening; in center is a perforation where menstrual blood leaves and tampons are inserted; absence or presence is not a sign of virginity; if present, will usually tear and bleed during first coitus (intercourse)
