Differentiate between expected and obtained outcomes.

An expected outcome is a reported, observed or quantifiable result that is expected to occur as a result of a nursing intervention. During evaluation, the nurse determines whether an expected outcome has been attained or not attained and adjusts the plan of care accordingly. The current patient behavior or finding (eg B/P, K+ level, etc) is the attained (or obtained)outcome.
