Provides oxygenated blood to all of the tissues in the body,
The aorta is the largest artery in the human body,
Thickest walls of any blood vessel in the body,
Ascends from the heart and descends from the thoracic and abdominal cavities,
Aortic arch branches off into three major arteries: brachiocephalic, common carotid and subclavian
Brachiocephalic Trunk (artery)
Supplies blood to the tissues of the brain and the head,
Divides into the common carotid and the right subclavian artery
Brachiocephalic vein
Takes blood from the head and neck back to the heart via the subclavian vein
Common carotid arteries (left and right)
Supplies blood to the head and neck,
divides into the internal and external carotid arteries
Internal jugular veins
Returns deoxygenated blood from the head to the heart,
drains into the subclavian vein
external jugular veins
returns blood from the cranium's exterior and deep portions of the face to the heart,
Drains into the subclavian vein
Subclavian vein
Allows blood to travel along the brachiocephalic vein back to the heart.
Right subclavian artery
Descends from the aortic arch and leads to the right arm. Branches of the subclavian artery supply blood to parts of the shoulder, neck and head.
Left subclavian artery
Left subclavian artery comes out from the arch of the aorta and behind the left common carotid artery,
Supplies blood to parts of the shoulder, neck and head.
Inferior vena cava
Collects blood from the hepatic veins, lumbar veins, gonadal veins, renal veins, and phrenic veins,
Enters the heart through the right atrium.
Superior Vena Cava
Collects deoxygenated blood from the head and neck and carries it back to the heart into the right atrium
