Universal Safety Rules |
Treat every weapon as if it were loaded, Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot, Keep finger straight and off the trigger until ready to fire, Keep weapon on safe until ready to fire |
Treat, Never, Keep, Keep |
What does MK stand for? |
MARK |
What does MOD stand for? |
Modification |
What is a bore? |
Gauge of a shotgun |
How is bore measured? |
Number of lead balls of the diameter to make a pound. |
Cycles of Operation |
Feeding, Chambering, Locking, Firing, Unlocking, Extracting, Ejecting, and Cocking. |
8 Steps! |
Basic type of operation for semi and auto |
Gas, Recoil, Blowback |
3 of them |
What is gas operation? |
Gas goes behind bullet and pushes piston rearward and the piston carries the bolt aft as well. |
Completes firing cycle. |
Gas impingement system |
Small volume of gas at cylinder with expansion, gas pours through port until bullet exists muzzle then pressure drops. |
Gas Tappet System |
Impingement system with short piston travel. "Short stroke system" Only taps the lock mechanism open and exerts NO force. |
Gas Expansion System |
Large volume of gas in expansion chamber, means more time to pressurize and exhaust gas. Drained from bore. |
What is recoil System? |
When round is fired high pressure develops behind round and forced down barrel. |
Why do you feel recoil? |
Barrel and bolt are secured to each other. |
Two method of recoil operations |
Long Recoil (browning) Short Recoil (maxim) |
What is long recoil? |
Barrel, breechblock, comp parts Recoil together. Ejection takes place on counterrecoil. |
What short Recoil? |
To eliminate all blowback tendencies, bolt latch not released until propellant gases become ineffective. |
What is blowback also know as? |
"Inertia Operation" |
What is blowback? |
Bolt is not locked to the barrel and cases the barrel does not Recoil. Weight of breechblock important in operation. |
What is Straight Blowback "Simple"? |
Uses Recoil energy from firing a round to operate weapon. Used in low power weapons. |
Used in Pistol. |
Retarded Blowblack |
Recoil force exerted on mechanism must overcome the mechanical disadvantage, holding breechblock closed. Outdated. |
Used on Tommy Gun. |
Accelerated Blowback |
Floating chamber in barrel moves more rapidly against heavy slide proving sufficient energy to operate. |
Used in .45 Cal pistol |
Max Range |
Greatest distance projectile will travel. |
Max Effective Range |
Greatest distance projectile will travel with accuracy. |
Cyclic Rate of Fire |
Max rate weapon will fire RPM. |
Rounds per Minute |
Sustained rate of fire |
Average number of rounds fired per minute |
Describe how the M9 operates? |
Single/Double action, short Recoil, semiautomatic, magazine Fed, self-loading handgun with fixed sites. |
How many rounds in M9 mag? |
15 |
How much does the M9 weigh empty? |
2.1 lbs |
Max Range of M9? |
1800 Meters |
Max Effective Range of M9? |
50 meters |
How is the M14 rifle operated? |
Lightweight, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine fed, shoulder weapon. |
What is the cyclic rate of M14? |
750 RPM |
Size of Ammo for M14? |
7.62 mm |
How many rounds can a M14 magazine hold? |
20 |
What is the gas spindle valve? |
Controls gases used in firing |
If the gas spindle valve looks like above what does that mean? |
Off position- valve is closed. Permits full pressure of gas to propel a grenade or line. |
