What is a Surface Analysis Chart? When is it released?
Also known as a Surface Weather Analysis Chart, it depicts atmospheric pressure patterns at the earth's surface, and provides surface weather observations at specific points throughout the United States. It is released every three hours.
What is a Weather Depiction Chart? When is it released?
A weather depiction chart provides a visual presentation of METARs, and depicts weather conditions for the associated areas. It is compiled every three hours.
What is a Radar Summary Chart? When is it released?
A radar summary chart graphically depicts a collection of radar weather reports. These charts only depict precipitation, and may not display all cloud formations. They are released 35 minutes past each hour.
What are the two types of images available from satellites?
Visible and Infrared (IR).
When are sattelite images released?
Every thirty minutes, except at night when visible photos are not available.
What is a US Low-Level Significant Weather Prog Chart? When are they issued? When are they Valid?
Sig Prog charts are forecasts for 12 and 24 hours in advance. The top two panels depict significant weather, whereas the bottom two panels depict pressure systems, fronts, precipitation and thunderstorms. They are issued 4 times daily, beginning at 0000Z. They are valid at the times printed on the chart.
