-a period goes inside of quotation marks if the marks are at the end of the sentence. I said, "hi my name is sharday." -if the quotation marks are in the middle of the sentence then place a comma at the end of the marks. I said, "hi my name is sharday," then he laughed. (fyi, always add the comma before " ) |

Where does the question mark or exclamation mark goes when using quotation |
- I said, "What is you name?!" - if the the exclamation marks applies to the whole sentence than it goes outside " -Did you hear what he said when I asked, "What is you name"? -Did you hear him say, "What is my name," when I asked for it? If its a complete sentence inside quote, then put ? and period at end of sentence - "Dont you love me?" asked mona holding up a flower. -note that the 1st letter in " is capitalized if it is a complete quote. |
