Climate

because it was a rich land. Indians came to hunt wild animals, to gather food, to plant crops, to make salt, and to mine lead

How is Missouri today different than it was when the Native Americans lived here?

Many of the trees have been cut down to make room for farms and cities. There are factories standing where Indians had once hunted. Farming practices have changed, instead of using hoes there are tractors to plow the fields.

Why is Missouri sometimes called the "heart of America"?

Because it is located near the center of the United States

Why did fewer people settle in the Ozarks region of Missouri?

The Ozark Mountains were difficult to travel through and the land was rocky and the soil was thin. This was not good for growing crops as other regions.
