What is the definition of an aircraft accident?
an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight until such times as all persons have disembarked, in which any person suffers death or serious injury as a result of being in or upon the aircraft or by direct contact with the aircraft or anything attached thereto, or the aircraft receives substantial damage.

d. Involves any internal organ

What is the definition of Substantial damage?
a. Except as privided in subparagraph(b) of this paragraph, substantial damage means damage or failure which adversely affects the structural strength, performance, or flight characteristics of the aircraft and which would normally require major repair or replacement of the affected component.

b. Engine failure or damage limited to an engine if only one engine fails or is damaged, bent fairings or cowling, dented skin, small puncture in the skin or fabric, ground damage to rotor or propelloer blades, and damage to landing grear, wheels, tires, flaps, engine accessories, brakes, or wingtips are not considered "substantial damage" for the purpose of this part.

Pesonal injuries to the passengers, crew or ground pesonnel of a minor nature, which requires hospitalization for less than 48 hours.

An emergency is any situation in which the safety of flight is endangered, or in which it is necessary to devate from the provisions of the FAR's or Operations Specifications.

When an aircraft component failure endangers flight safety.

Observe and record pertinent information concerning the accident.
