0.6mg tablets


50mg transdermal patch (0.4mg/hr release)

Glyceryl Trinitrate- Pharmacology


Vascular smooth muscle relaxant.


Reduces preload by causing venous dilatation promoting venous pooling and reducing venous return.


Reduces afterload by causing arterial dilatation reducing systemic vascular resistance and arterial pressure

Reduces myocardial O2 demand


Reduces systolic, diastolic and MAP, whilst maintaining coronary artery perfusion


Mild collateral coronary arterial dilatation which may improve blood supply to ischaemic areas of myocardium


Mild tachycardia 2ndary to slight fall in BP


Preterm labour= uterine quiescence

Chest pain with ACS


Acute LVF


Hypertension associated with ACS (MICA)


Autonomic dysreflexia


Preterm labour (consult only)

Known hypersensitivity


Systolic BP <110mmHg (tablet) <90 (patch)


Viagra/ Levitra in last 24hrs, Cialis in last 4 days


HR > 150bpm, <50bpm (excluding autonomic dysreflexia)


VT


Inferior STEMI with BP <160mmHg


Right Ventricular infarct

Concurrent use with other tocolytics


Recent AMI


Elderly patients


No previous administration
