The direct object of a cognate verb; a _______ object renames an idea inherent in the verb. E.g. "Do you drink alcoholic drinks?" "Try to think happy thoughts."
COGNATE
A normally intransitive verb which becomes transitive when it takes an object akin to its meaning. E.g. He slept a sound sleep, fought the good fight, lived a rich life, and then died a brave death.
COGNATE VERB
The effective and logical connection of ideas in an essay; the quality of an essay or story which gives it clarity and continuity.
COHERENCE
Writing a paper as a team where the learning and writing processes are emphasized, as well as the final product. It is quite common in the business world.
COLLABORATIVE WRITING
An adjective that functions as a collective noun. When the definite article, "the", is combined with an adjective describing a class or group of people, the resulting phrase can act as a noun. E.g. the poor, the rich, the oppressed, the homeless, the lonely, the unlettered, unwashed, the gathered, the dear departed. It is always plural and requires a plural verb. E.g. "The rural poor have been ignored by the media."
