hip hugger: a fit of pants worn by both men and women that hugs the hips and thighs tightly, flaring out from the knee to the the hem at the bottom of the leg. the tight fit on the waist creates a defined line that fits to the natural form of the wearer, the line created around the hips evenly divides the top and bottom half of the wearer creating horizontal symmetrical balance. The tight fit on the thighs paired withe the flare of the bottom half creates vertical diagonal lines traveling up the leg elongating their apparent size while greatly slimming the apparent size of the thighs. The lower fit on the hip displays the full length of the torso.

pencil skirt


A woman's skirt with a very narrow and straight cut that hugs the curves of the legs and hips ending at or slightly below the knee. the narrow cut creates vertical contouring lines that follow the natural shape of the woman's waist hips and legs slimming and lengthening their appearance. because of the narrow design the skirt is usually designed with a back slit to make to make movement easier and the design more functional.

a line skirt


An iconic silhouette that's narrow at the waist and flares away from the hips, resembling the letter A. The skirt generally is no shorter than mid thigh and no longer than knee length. An a-line skirt doesn't have pleats or slits but may have darts at the hip to improve the fit. The diagonal vertical lines of the silhouette slims the waist and upper body while hiding the thighs and hips; the exposed calves are slimmed by the contrasting wide horizontal opening.

pleated pant: Dress pants with 2 creases running down each leg of the pants. The pleats are created by folding and sewing the material before attaching it to the waistband, which is worn on the waist above the hipbone. The higher fit creates more volume in the form of the pants freeing room making the fit more comfortable, the pleats help maintain the overall silhouette of the pants and the creases create thin vertical lines down the leg that lengthen and slim their appearance.

gored skirt: made up of several triangular pieces of fabric called gores. These gores are smaller at the top of the waist and widen towards the hemline. The A line silhouette flatters the hips and helps with movement, the multiple vertical lines of the skirt draws attention up and away towards the face, lengthening the legs appearance.



yoked skirt: a drop down waist effect the fits slim against the hips that helps support the looser parts of the skirt that a waistband would otherwise let flow from the hips or waist and not form to the shape of the wearer. This design allows room for movement while reducing bulk in the dress, the yoked waist fits snug emphasizing the shape of the waist.





sarong


a strip of cloth worn in multiple skirt/dress fashions by wrapping and tying the cloth in different ways. The flowing loose fitting casual style of the garment promotes comfort and ease of movement, the diversity in ways it can be worn ensures a style that works with all body types.



dirndl


A dress with a close fitting bodice and full length skirt falling below the knees flowing from the hips. A full Dirndl has a bodice, blouse, full skirt, and apron, the dress itself usually contains intricate patterns on silk or hand printed fabrics. The shape of the dress contours the waist and shapes the bust while the skirt and apron hide the apparent size of the things and natural shape and mass of the lower body.

peasant: a folk style dress commonly seen with embroidery and floral patterns; a lace front, back, or waist, puffed sleeves and a low neckline are common design aspects seen on a peasant dress. The minimal design and excess volume in its form creates an easy to wear dress that is comfortable and timeless.
