In mathematics, they developed the concept of zero as well as the decimal system. In medicine, Gupta physicians began to use herbs and other remedies to treat illnesses; and surgeons were available. In architecture they created stupas, large dome-shaped shrines. In literature they made stories that were carried into the west.

They were for the wealthier, in where an entire family would live in a common home.
