Define elder abuse.
Any action or lack of action that leads to harm or threatened harm to the health and welfare of the elderly.
What are some signs of elder neglect?
Dehydration, malnutrition, untreated bed sores, poor hygiene, unattended health problems, unsafe and unsanitary living conditions, lice and fleas, or reports of neglect.
What are some signs of elder abuse?
Bruises, black eyes, lacerations, bone fractures, open wounds, broken glasses, elder's report of abuse, and sudden change in behavior.
What are some signs of sexual abuse of the elderly?
Bruising around genitals, unexplained venereal diseases, vaginal or anal bleeding, torn or bloody underpants, or elder's report of abuse.
What are some signs of psychological abuse of the elderly?
Emotionally upset or agitated, withdrawal or nonresponsiveness, unusual behavior and an elders report of abuse.
