Why do different research studies show different amounts of time spent on housework?
Some studies collect information based on stylized questions about particular activities such as “How many hours you spend doing laundry last week?” while other studies ask respondents to record in a “time diary” what they do during specific blocks of time.
How would women’s rising market wages affect the amount of housework they do?
A dynamic process may be going on in which rising market wages induce women to allocate more time to market work and less time to house work. As they do so, they accumulate more labor market experience, further increasing their wages and resulting in further decreases in their housework time.
If the husband is unemployed, what does the research say about his hours of housework?

Why is it surprising that more highly educated mothers spend more time directly engaged with their children
Time with their children may be a luxury good, meaning that tie with children increases with income. It may be the case that highly educated mothers view one-on-one time with children as a necessary “investment” in their children, alongside formal education and extracurricular activities
What could be an explanation for this phenomenon?
Less-educated mothers work the same numbers of hours and have similar preferences; they have less flexible schedules, reducing the opportunity to take time off at will.
The unequal division to household labor, especially in households with young children, can hold back women at a time when they are trying to build their careers. But other evidence indicates that this inequality is less of a problem for women today than it may appear. How so?
Part-time women, often because they have primary responsibility for their family, are likely to confront smaller and less attractive choice of jobs, frequently lower earnings, scant fringe benefits, and fewer opportunities for promotion, while those who work full time must deal with a considerably heavier workload.

Employed women who are responsible for taking care of very young children or other family members needing personal car are likely to confront particular problems.
