Despite all of the recent progress on gay marriage, we are still living in a country full of ignorance and contempt. The fact that hate crimes committed against the LGBT community, which is lesbian, gay, bi, and transgender, constitute the third-highest category of hate crimes reported to the FBI is completely ridiculous. While hate crimes have been in a decline, the amount of homosexual murders has been on the rise. The people who are supposed to fight for our freedom and represent what we have, are trying to take our rights away.

When they say all men are created equal, it is meant to be literal, but only when were talking about white, wealthy men, right? Well, that's certainly what our Michigan governor Rick Snyder thinks, as he signed a legislation that allows adoption agencies that contract with the state to decline service to prospective parents due to religious reasons. A child won't be able to be put in a loving home because one person doesn't believe that a couple are loving the right people. What ever happened to the separation of church and state, because it sure isn't being shown with this "freedom." There especially isn't freedom when

gay men can't donate blood if they have had sexual intercourse. Although, people are struggling for this to be changed to celibacy for one year, this is still demeaning to gay men, and can prevent lives from being saved. This makes absolute no sense, because straight men do the exact same thing, and can donate blood. Do you really think that gay men can attract more diseases from sexual intercourse than a straight man? I would say that the odds are lower or close to the same. They are using that as an excuse to degrade gays and to

control people's lives with religion. Using hospitals as an example, 45 states have the legal right to allow a combination of doctors, nurses, and hospitals to refuse necessary reproductive care to patients under the eyes of their religion. Does this make any sense? People who are spending their lives trying to save and improve lives are risking these lives just to make a point that doesn't even need to be made, and the government is allowing this to happen. We are allowing this to happen.

There are still no federal laws protecting the LGBT employees from discrimination. Twenty-one states and Washington D.C. have passed employee non-discrimination laws, but it is still legal in many places, including the US Congress, for employers to fire workers based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This sort of puts a separation on the gay community, and this includes kids. Over 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT. This could be because of disapproving parents, the fact that LGBT kids are at a heightened risk of violence, abuse, and exploitation, with physical and mental strains of the

prejudices against them. Imagine that you were a parent of a kind-hearted kid, who is trying so hard in life to be the best that they can. Now imagine that they told you they were gay. What would you do? Would you accept them in a loving manner and let them know that there's nothing wrong with them, and you still love them as much as you did. Or would you tell them that they are a disgrace to this family and let them know that you are so disgusted of them, that you kick them out. Now your kid is living on the streets with their parents not loving them simply because of who they love. This is not a choice

that is made by a person. You don't think that homosexual kids would rather feel normal and accepted? Don't be that parent or person that doesn't accept or love another because of who that person is attracted to. Chances are, that person is just as confused and sad as you are. This goes to all of the people who are against a once loved one for being gay. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just make sure you know the effects of it. This is the reason that so many LGBT kids are homeless, or drifting.
