Pilon Fractures |
Definitive Treatment: Initial Tibial Ex-Fix (w/in 24 hours) followed by staged ORIF when soft tissue permits (fibula can +/- be plated first at the time of initial tibial ex-fix to prevent shortening, then tibia plate at second surgery). May need bone grafting during tibia ORIF. |

Calcaneous fracture |
Wixted only fixes them if the Harris heel view shows malalignment. Buckley 2002 JBJS showed no advantage to operative fixation. Surgery only better for younger, non worker comp, lower bohler angle, sedentary lifestyle, comminuted. |
