What is Critical Thinking?

A continuous process characterized by open-mindedness , continual inquiry, and perseverance, combine with a willingness to look at each unique patient situation and determine which identified assumptions are true and relevant.


Recognizing that an issue exist, analyzing information, evaluating information, and making conclusions.


Preparing for all possibilities.


As a nurse we need to face each problem involving a patient care with open mindedness, creativity, confidence, continual inquiry.


Critical thinking is a process acquired only through experience, an active curiosity toward learning.


No two patients' health problems are alike, a nurse always apply critical thinking differently: nurse should observe closely, gather info about them, examine ideas, recognize the problems, act quickly when events change, make quality decisions for patients' well being, take actions.

What is evidence - based knowledge?
Knowledge based on research or clinical expertise, makes you an informed critical thinker. Critical thinking requires cognitive skills and habit of asking questions, remaining well informed, being honest in facing personal biases, willing to think clearly about issue, being able to see big picture from all possible perspective. A nurse is patient advocate, supporter.
