- Marie est ici depuis le premier juillet. "Marie has been here since July 1st.
DEPUIS + QUAND/ DEPUIS + COMBIEN DE TEMPS
To ask "how long" or "since when" something has been going on.

- Depuis quand as-tu ton diplome? "Since when have you had your diploma?"
- Depuis le mois de juin "Since the month of June?"


- Depuis combien de temps travailles-tu ici? "Since when are you working here?"
- Depuis six mois. "Since 6 months."
PENDANT used in past tense
TO speak of a past action or condition that has a specific duration or time span

- Pendant combien de temps avez-vouz habité au Canada? Nous avons habité au Canada pendant deux ans.
"Since when do you live in Canada..for two years"
IL Y A + amount of time
This is the equivalent of :ago: in English

- Il a fini ses etudes il y a deux ans...He finished school two years ago -
DANS + amount of time
Used to indicate that a future action is going to take place in a certain amount of time..

-Nous allons finir nos études dans un an. "We will finish our studies in one year"
