For each of the following sentences, identify whether it is a fragment or a sentence. (flip for definition)
A FRAGMENT is a group of words that is not a complete sentence. A fragment may be lacking a subject or a verb or both. It may just be a noun phrase with a lot of modifiers or a verb phrase with a lot of modifiers.

Or it may have a subject and a verb but be incomplete because it is a dependent clause.

Don’t confuse a phrase of words lacking a subject with a command that has an implied subject. If it is a command with an implied subject, you will be able to insert the subject “you” in front of the verb. If you can’t, it is not a command; it is a fragment.
