anecdotal record
A documentation method that briefly describes an activity, a snatch of conversation, a chant, and so on. Anecdotal records can be based on reflection or written on the spot.
distraction
A device to keep a child from continuing an action or behavior. Distraction can also be used to take children's minds off a strong feeling. Distraction works but has side effects as children learn that their energy or feelings are not acceptable to adults who distract them. Distraction is sometimes confused with redirection and may look similar, but distraction is aimed at stopping the energy behind the behavior or the feeling, whereas redirection moves it in a more acceptable direction.
