When is Passe Compose used:

Expressing a completed action that was not habitual and happened longer ago than just now. Thus not the Passe recent.

when verb relates to direct object


Je l'ai vue. La revue que j'ai vue.

Passé Composé - I went to the store


Imparfait - I used to go to the store, I was going to the store (when something happened PC)


Plus Que Parfait - I had been playing before something happened (PC)
