Members of the privileged class; nobles by birth or appointment
Aristocrats
Form of government in which the king or queen governs with complete power, the right to rule is inherited
Absolute Monarchy
Form of government in which the king or queen governs with a parliament or similar body that can create laws or overturn royal decisions. Monarchs inherit rule; some members of parliament may inherit (House of Lords) or be elected (House of Commons)
Limited Monarchy
Form of government in which the citizens have input into the decision making process.
Democracy
Form of government in which the citizens vote directly on the decisions.
Direct Democracy
Form of government in which the citizens select people who will vote for them to make decisions.
Representative Democracy
Form of government in which a few individuals , aristocrats or wealthy members of the middle class have the power to make decisions. The right to rule can be in inherited or members of the middle class may be promoted
Oligarchy
Ruling Power is in the hands of one individual who has seized control; also called a dictatorship
Tyranny
A war in which the ruling power is overthrown.
Revolution
A war in which citizens of the same country are at war with each other
Civil War
Government in which there is a process for monitoring/controlling the power of government
Limited Government
Government in which there is no procedure to challenge government decisions.
Unlimited Government
