Isolationism

What was Isolationism?

A policy in which America detached itself form foreign entanglements.

Why did America follow the policy of Isolationism?

1) The continent of Europe was thousand of miles away and some believed America was superior to the Imperial powers


2) America was populated by immigrants who had fled Europe


3) Many believed that America has more morally based principles

The Monroe Doctrine

When was the Monroe Doctrine created?

1823 by President James Monroe. It established the scope of US interests abroad

What did the Doctrine state?

1) US policy would be to avoid all involvement in EU wars unless American interests were involved


2)American Continents would not be colonised by European Powers


3) Any such attempts would be seen as unfriendly acts
