Force

Something that changes the motion and or shape of an object. Forces can create movement and they can also change or stop movement.

Friction

A force that resists motion and produces heat

Scientific Method

A method of conducting science that usually includes an observation hypothesis experiment and theory.

Observation

Anything that is observed that is consistent (happens the same each time)

Hypothesis

A scientists "best guess" why something is happening

Theory

Scientists conclusion of why something happens the way it does

Elastic force

Returning force

Lubricant

A substance that reduces friction between two moving services

Fluids

A substance that flows with relative ease. Water (liquids) and air (gas) are both fluids.

Gravity

A force that pulls all things towards each other

Mass

The amount of water in an object

Galileo

Galileo Galilee 15 64–16 42. Conducted many experiments dealing with the earths gravitational pull. Many of his experiments were done on the famous leaning Tower of Pisa I. Like many scientist with new ideas his peers did not except his discoveriesand considered him a heretic.

Centripetal force

A force that continually pools a spinning object toward it center

Pressure

The amount of force on a certain amount of surface area

Buoyancy

The upward pushing force of a fluid against an object that is pushing down against the fluid

Inertia

The tendency of objects to resist a change in motion

Speed

Equals the distance traveled divided by the amount of time it took.

Acceleration

The rate of change of velocity in relation to time. Also see newtons second law of motion.

Velocity

The speed of an object in a certain direction

Isaac newton: name his 3 Laws of Motion

1.an object in motion tends to stay in motion

2.acceleration the rate of change of velocity in relation to time

Bernoulli Principle

2.1, 2.2. The pressure in a fluid decreases as the speed of fluid increases

Centripetal forces

4.2. A force that continually pulls a spinning object to word it center

Archimedes

5.2. A mathematician, born in 287 BC, who discovered the principle of buoyancy

Displacement

3.5 The straight-line change in position of an object

Gram

5.2. A metric unit of weight equaling approximately .035 ounces
