Producers

Carry out photosynthesis (plants, algae). Turn sunlight into useful energy. They are Autotrophs: make their own food.

Consumers

Eat other organisms. Can’t produce their own food(heterotrophs).

Herbivore

only plants.

Omnivore

plants and meat.

Carnivore

only meat.

Consumers

Animals that eat other animals =predators. Animals that are hunted = prey.

Scavengers

Eat remains of dead animals.

Detrivores

Feed on organic matter (e.g. remains ofdead organisms, waste).

Decomposers

Break down matter and release nutrientsback into ecosystem (recycles them!).

Food Chain

Shows feeding relationships.

Trophic Levels

Level in an ecosystem depending on feeding position.

Trophic Levels - 1st trophic level

producers.

Trophic Levels - 2nd

primary consumers.

Trophic Levels - 3 rd

secondary consumers.

Trophic Levels - 4th

tertiary consumers.

Food Web

Many consumers eat different foods. Better modelled by a food web

Energy

Only 10% of energy from food is stored in the body andcan be passed on to another animal! 30% usedfor bodyprocesses. 60%passed outin wastes.

Energy Pyramids

Show amount of available energy. Shows the importance of producers (lotsof energy!). Because of less energy left at each level, thereare also less individuals.
