Intolerable Acts

Numeral British laws passed in 1774 to punish the colonist for dumping over 10,000 dollars worth of tea into the harbor.The laws set closed the ports of Boston until colonist decided to pay back the money that was lost during the Boston tea party, banned all town meetings, and put General Thomas Gage as the new governor of the colony. closing the ports would cause trade to stop which made the colonist lose money. This caused the colonies to unite together against England.

Stamp Act

The stamp act was passed by the british parliament on March 22,1756. The new tax was imposed on all american colonist and required the to pay on tax on every peice of printed paper. They placed taxes on legal documents, liscenses,newspapers, other publications. This lead to an uproar in the colonist over an issue that was to be a major cause of the revolution. Colonist were not happy with the stamp act so they decided to dump 10,000 dollars worth of tea into Boston's harbor as a protest against the british stamp act.

Proclamation of 1763

On October 7 1763 king George issued a proclamation that forbade colonial settlements from going west of the Appalachian mountains. He hoped to placate native Americans who sided against him during the seven year war. How ever enforcement where extremely weak, so weak that it did little to nothing to curb the westward flow of pioneers

Sons of Liberty

In 1763, British Prime Minister George Greenville passed new legislation aimed at solving some of the empire's problems stemming from the French and Indian War. The colonists cried, 'Taxation without representation is tyranny!' A Massachusetts colonist named Samuel Adams organized this secret society in order to protest and spread the word about boycotts. They harassed and terrorized anyone who complied with the British laws. Because of this the king got rid of the stamp act. This was one of the first times the colonist had went against the king and won. .

Daughters of Liberty

The daughters of liberty were women who showed their patriotism by supporting the boycott of British goods. They encouraged Americans to wear homemade fabrics and produce other goods that were previously available only from Britain. They thought that if they did this the British would become economically independent. They came together as a result of the stamp act.

Committees Of correspondence

On June 10th, 1774 in north Carolina the committee of correspondence rallied colonial opposition against British policy and established a political union among the Thirteen Colonies. The Boston Committee of Correspondence and the Sons of Liberty worked in conjunction with one another.More than half of the members of the Boston Committee of Correspondence were also members of the furtive Sons of Liberty.

Thomas Paine

In 1737-1809 Thomas Paine helped make many of the ideas that marked the Age of Revolution. he was highly know for his in 1776, for his his highly popular “Common Sense” was the first pamphlet to describe American independence.
