How are fold mountains formed at destructive plate margins?

1. River erodes material from land surface and transports it to sea.
2.Sediment is deposited on the ocean floor,layers build up over time forming sedimentary rock due to compression. 3.Plated move together, at destructive plate margins. 4.Rock crumple as a result, forming fold mountains , with anticlines and synclines. 5.Fold mountains can also form at subduction zones where the continental crust crumples as it meets the oceanic crust. At the point, the sea is very deep and it is here that there are ocean trenches. |

Fold mountains are mountains made by folding sedimentary rock. |

Oceanic trenches are deep water areas that run along a coastline. |

How are oceanic trenches formed? |
Oceanic trenches are created by subduction, and mark the point where the Oceanic crust is being pushed under the continental plate ** -- at a destructive plate margin. |

How do we farm on fold mountains? |
Farming: Higher mountain slopes aren't great for growing crops so they're used to graze animals e.g mountain goats.
Lower slopes are sometimes terraced to make growing crops easier. |

Why are fold mountains used for HEP? |
Steep-sided mountains and high lakes ( to store water) make fold mountains ideal for generating HEP. |

How do we mine on fold mountains? |
Fold mountains are a major source of metal ores, so there's a lot of mining going on. The steep slopes make access to mines difficult , so zig-zag roads have been carved out on the sides of some mountains. |

Forestry on fold mountains? |
Fold mountains ranges are a good environment to grow some types of tree ( e.g conifers). They're grown on the steep valley slopes and are used for things like fuel, building materials, and to make things like paper and furniture. |

Tourism on fold mountains? |
Fold mountains have spectacular scenery, which attracts tourist. In winter, people visit to do sports like skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing. In summer, walkers come to enjoy the scenery. Tunnels have been drilled through some fold mountains to make straight fast roads. This improves communications for tourists and people who live in the area as it's quicker to get to places. |
