What's homeostasis?

Maintneance of a constant internal environment in the body by a physiological process

Your normal extracellular fluid volume has increased. Why?

-fluid gain

-Na+ gain & reflex fluid gain

What will correct the increased extracellular fluid volumes?

Secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). It causes the release of natriuretic peptide

What is caused by ANP release?

= Return to a normal extracellular fluid volume via....

-decreased aldosterone ( so more sodium is excreted in urine)

-decreased ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) release....so DCT is less permeable to water and more water is excreted in urine. And thirst is decreased.

The extracellular fluid volume is low. What are the two causes?

-loss of Na+

&- loss of fluid

What corrects this decreased ECF concentration?

Secretion of RAAS.

It increaes renin secretion and angiotensin activation

What will RAAS & the renin-angiotensin system result in?

-increased aldosterone secretion(to hold on to sodium)

&- increased ADH secretion to allow DCT ti be permeable to water reabsorption & increase thirat
