The loss of feeling or sensation, especially loss of the sensation of pain

ANESTHESIA

A controlledstate of unconsciousness, produced by a pharmacologic agent, accompanied by apartial or complete loss of protective reflexes, including inability toindependently maintain an airway and respond purposefully to physicalstimulation or verbal command.

GENERAL ANESTHESIA

Acontrolled state of depressed consciousness accompanied by partial loss ofprotective reflexes, including either or both the inability to continuallymaintain an airway independently or to respond appropriately to physicalstimulation or verbal command, produced by pharmacologic or non-pharmacologicmethod or combination thereof.

DEEP SEDATION

Adepressed level of consciousness produced by theadministration of pharmacologic substances, that retains the patient’s abilityto independently and continuously maintain an airway and respond appropriatelyto physical stimulation and verbal command.

CONSCIOUS SEDATION

Adepressed level of consciousness produced by the administration of pharmacologicsubstances, that retains a child patient’s ability to independently andcontinuously maintain an airway and respond appropriately to physicalstimulation or verbal commandmethod. a child isdefined as an individual under 18 years of age, or any person who has specialneeds, which means having a physical or mental impairment that substantiallylimits one or more major life activities

PEDIATRIC CONSCIOUS SEDATION

Theadministration by inhalation of a combination of nitrous-oxide and oxygenproducing an altered level of consciousness that retains the patient’s abilityto independently and continuously maintain an airway and respond appropriatelyto physical stimulation or verbal command.

NITROUS-OXIDE INHALATION SEDATION

The lossof sensation of pain in a specific area of the body, generally produced by atopically applied agent or injected agent without causing the loss of consciousness.

LOCAL ANESTHESIA

Absence ofsensibility of pain, designating particularly the relief of pain without lossof consciousness.

ANALGESIA

Amethodology employed by a dentist in the administration of general anesthesia,deep sedation, conscious sedation, and pediatric sedation whereby the dentistuses one or more qualified assistants/dental hygienists who, working under thedirect supervision of the dentist, assist the dentist, and assist in emergencycare of the patient

OFFICE TEAM APPROACH

Theperioperative use of medication to relieve anxiety before or during a dentalprocedure which does not produce a depressed level of consciousness andmaintains the patient’s ability to maintain an airway independently and torespond appropriately to physical and verbal stimulation

MINIMAL SEDATION (ANXIOLYSIS)

Theadministration of small incremental doses of an orally administered medicationuntil an intended level of conscious sedation is observed

TITRATION OF ORAL MEDICATION

Florida licensed dentalhygienist who is certified by the Board and has received a certificate from theDepartment of Health that allows the administration of local anesthesia and is appropriately supervised by a Florida licensed dentist

CERTIFIED REGISTERED DENTAL HYGIENIST

Any mortality that occurs during or as the result of a dental procedure, or an incident that results in the temporary or permanent physical or mental injury that requires hospitalization or ER treatment of a dental patientthat occurred during or as a direct result ofthe use of any kind of anesthesia

Adverse occurance

If an adverse occurance happens during the administration of anesthesia both a Dentist and a DH must:

Notify the board within 48hrs in writing by registered mail

A complete written report should be filed with the board within ___ days

The complete written report shall at minimum include:

Name, address and Phone # of patient and supervising dentist, complete description of dental procedure, detailed preoperative physical condition, list of local anesthesia/ dose of L.A. admin
