Solid
Has a fixed volume and a fixed shape. The particles are close together and usually form a regular
pattern. Particles vibrate but are fixed in one shape.
Liquid
Fixed volume but does not have a fixed shape. Take on the shape of the container they are in. Particles are attracted to one another and are close together. They can move from place to place.
Gas
No fixed volume or shape. Takes on both the
shape and the volume of a container. Particles are well spread out and move in all directions. Space between particles increase or decrease according to changes in temperature and pressure.
