Step A - Basics/Background
Sink is considered contaminated
DO NOT LEAN AGAINST SINK or touch at any time during procedure
Before starting check that paper towels are accessible, and disposal pail ready for them to be discarded.
Step B - Procedure
Turn on water at sink, adjust temperature to warm, but comfortable
Step C - Procedure
Wet hands thoroughly up to wrist keeping hands pointed downward
Step D - Procedure
Applies soap to hands, sufficient for a good lather, or as directed/recommended per type of soap
Step E - Procedure
CRITICAL:
Lather all surfaces of wrists, hands, and fingers, producing friction for at least 15 seconds including between fingers.
Step F - Procedure
Clean cuticles downward, clean nail by rubbing fingertips against palms of the opposite hand (If nails long - use fingernails to clean under).
Do not forget wrists.
Friction for all surfaces approx 45 seconds.
Step G - Procedure
After lathering for at least 15 seconds, rinses all surfaces of hands and wrists working upward.
Keep hands lower than the elbows and the fingertips down at all times
Let excess water drip into sink without shaking in a manner that will allow drops to come out of sink
Step H - Procedure
Uses clean, dry paper towel to pat dry all surfaces of hands, wrists, and fingers then disposes of paper towel into waste container
When paper towels are wet dispose and use more if needed
Step I - Procedure
Use clean, dry paper towel to turn off faucet then dispose of paper towel into waste container.
Step J - Procedure
If in enclosed room, use dry paper towel to open door (and turn off light if necessary)
Discard final paper towel
