Who develop the PDI?
-American College of Prosthodontics
What is PDI?
-PDI: Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index:
-This is partially edentulous classification system offers the following potential benefits.
What is the advantage of having PDI?
-Improves: Intra-operator consistency, pro. communication
-Insurance reimbursement w/ complex care
-Objective method for pt. screening
-Improved DX consistency
-Simplified, oragnized aid in decision to refer a pt.
What are the 4 categories in PDI for the Partially Edentulous pt?
-Class 1: Ideal/Minimally comprised
-Class 2: Moderately compromised
-Class 3: Substantially compromised
-Class 4: Severely compromised
What is the 4 DX criteria for each class?
1-Location and extend of edentulous ridge
2-Condition of abutments
3-Occlusal Scheme
4-Residual Ridge
Describe Class 1 in relation to Location & Extend of Edentulous Area (s)?
-Edentulous area is confined to single arch and one of the following:
-Ant. Max Ed. Span </equal 2 Incisors
-Ant. Mand Ed. Span </equal 4 incisors
-Post. Max./Mand Span </equal 2 premolar
-1 premolar & 1 molar
Describe Class 2 in relation to Location & Extend of Edentulous Area (s)?
-Edentulous areas in one or both arches with same criteria as Class I

OR / PLUS

-Maxillary or Mandibular canine is clinically missing
Describe Class 3 in relation to Location & Extend of Edentulous Area (s)?
-Any Max/Mand span >/equal 3

OR

-2 Molars
Describe Class 4 in relaiton to Locaiton & Extend of Edentulous Area (s)?
-Any edetulous area(s) requiring A LOT OF pt. compliance
Describe Class I in relation to Condition of Abutment teeth?
No Prosthetic TX required
Describe Class 2 in relation to Condition of Abutment teeth?
-Abutment teeth in 1 or 2 sextants
-Insufficient tooth structure to retain intracoronal restoration
-Require adjunctive TX such as Perio, Endo ect.
Describe Class 3 in relation to Condition of Abutment teeth?
-Abutment Teeth in 4/more sextants
-Insufficient tooth structure to retain/support intra- or extra-coronal restoration
-Requires extensive adjunctive therapy
Describe Class 4 in relation to Condition of Abutment teeth?
-Abutment teeth have a guarded prognosis
Describe Class 1 in relation to Occlusal Scheme?
-No pre-prosthetic TX necessary
-Class I molar and jaw relationship
Describe Class 2 in relation to Occlusal Scheme?
-Requries local adjunctive TX, such as enameloplasty on premature occlusal contacts
-Class I molar and jaw relationship
Describe Class 3 in relation to Occlusal Scheme?
-Entire occlusal scheme requires re-establishment W/O OVD change
-Class 2 molar and jaw relationship
Describe Class 4 in relation to Occlusal Scheme?
-Entire occlusal requires re-establishment W/ OVD changes
-Class 2 molar and jaw relationship
Describe Class 1, 2, 3, 4 in relation to Residual Ridge?
-Residual Ridge morphology is Class I complete edentulism description
Loss of posterior support describe which class?
Class 4
What are some additonal criteria for Class 4?
-Refractory pt.
-Difficulty in achieving their TX expectations
-Severe manifestations of local or systemic disease including sequelae from oncologic TX
-Maxillo-mandibular dyskinesia
What is refractory pt?
-A pt. who has chronic complaints following appropriate therapy
When pt. criteria are mixed b/t 2 or more classes, any ____ ____ of a more ____ ____ places the pt. into the more complex class.
-Single criterion
-Complex class
_____ health is initmately related to the DX and prognosis for partially edentulous patients.
-Periodontal health
Classificaiton increase by one more level due to what?
-Esthetic Concerns
-TMD symptoms
What Classification is used for Edentulous Maxilla Opposing the Partially Ed. Mandible in Maxilla & Mandbile?
-Maxilla: Complete Ed. Classification
-Mandible: Partially Ed. Classification
What is the single Exception to the Rule?
-Edentulous mandible vs. Partially Denate or Fully Dentate
Consideration of future TX procedures must influence the diagnostic level (T/F)
False: Consideration of future TX procedures must NOT influence the DX level
Initial pre-prosthetic TX and or adjunctive therapy can change the intial Classification level (T/F)
True
