What is a still alarm?
A still alarm is a fire on-view, started by a method outside the comm center such as a citizen contact. Can ask the reporting unit if they want tones or not.
What is an abandonment tone?
An Abandonment tone is a tool to be used to notify firefighters in a building or other space to evacuate immediately. This tone does not replace verbal notification; it is just an additional warning.
How does dispatch activate the abandonment tone?
Push and hold it for 6 seconds, it will turn off automatically.
After an abandonment tone, who orders the evacuation?
Normally the Incident Commander.
What's the procedure for a fire radio emergency activation?
1. Silence the alarm.
2. Announce "Fire dispatch acknowledges activation of Radio id# xxxxx"
3. Create a call in CAD
4. If accidental, give authorization to reset portable
5. If firefighter does not respond, notify battalion chief/IC.
How would a firefighter not on the 800 mhz radio system declare a PD emergency?
They would use "(Agency) unit (Designator)", for example Skykomish Unit 295. If this happens, send PD to their location.

Info on blood borne pathogens such as Aids, Hepatitis, HIV.

Articulated Boom
A folding arm type of hoise used to raise and lower the platform on certain elevating platform apparatus. Sometimes called snorkel or cherry picker.
A Triple F
Aqueous Film Forming Foam. Designed primarily for use on hydrocarbon Class B fires. Also known as light water, this substance is mixed at a rate of 3% - 6% with water and applied over flammable liquids to prevent contact with oxygen and thus smother any flames and reduce the chance of re-ignition as long as the blanket remains intact.

A hose taken by fire fighters for primary fire suppression.
BLEVE
Boiling Liquid Expanding Gas Vapor Explosion. A violent explosion caused by the heating of a liquefied gas such as propane, butane or natural gas to its flash point in a confined place such as a tank, truck or rail car.
Blind Alley
Term used by first units arriving on a scene to advise incoming units that they will be leaving hose at the entrance to the scene for hook-up.
Class A Fire
Fires fueled by wood, paper, rubber and plastic.
Class B Fire
Fires fueled by flammable liquids, greases and gases.
Class C Fire
Fires involving energized electrical equipment.
Class D Fire
Fires involving combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium and potassium.
Controlled Burn
Usually refers to land clearing operations where slash wood is burned. A burn permit or a permit from the local air pollution control board is normally required.
Cross Staffing
Personnel assigned to staff more than one apparatus from a station. When a unit is assigned to a call or when one of the apparatus is out of the station, the other unit is automatically placed out-of-service.

Area covered by the Bellevue Fire Department which is not inside the city limits of Bellevue.
Dry System
A dry pipe automatic sprinkler system having air under pressure in sprinkler piping in areas subject to freezing. Air is released when a sprinkler head opens and allows water to flow.
Dry System Gone Wet
A dry pipe automatic sprinkler system after going into alarm that is now flooded with water. May be caused by an activated sprinkler or rapid change in water pressure.
Exposures
Property or structures in the vicinity of a fire that are in jeopardy of being damaged due to fire, heat or smoke.
Extension
Spread of fire, usually during course of fire fighting operations, as extension of fire through open partitions into the attic, walls or crawl space.
Fire Under Control
The term used to indicate that the fire is no longer escalating and will generally be handled with the resources already on scene or requested
Halon
A colorless, odorless gas. It is used to extinguish fires in materials and equipment which might be damaged or destroyed by other fire fighting agents. It works by absorbing the oxygen.

A location not immediately adjacent to the incident where equipment and apparatus can remain until needed.

Used when apparatus is in the general area of their quarters only.
Move-Up
Should be used whenever a unit relocates to another station intending to take calls for that station. A move up will give tones for the home station and the station that the apparatus has relocated to.
Mushrooming
Extension of fire on upper floors due to pent-up heat which reaches the upper parts of the building through unprotected openings and which spreads the fire laterally unless it is ventilated.
A fire found to have been extinguished prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Out on Arrival

Apparatus will not be recommended for calls if their status is out-of-service mechanical or training.
