No, because Lincoln was not initially an abolitionist because he only cared about the union, however the South believed he was.

The united states can not have slavery in one place and not in the other and remain one union.

How does Lincoln's approach to slavery change over the coarse of the war?

Lincoln starts the war to keep the union together, but then turn it into a crude against slavery.

The abolitionist wanted to keep slavery out of the west and the south wanted slavery in the new territories. Therefore they fought over each new territory.

How did the Compromise of 1850 help to cause the war?

It included a fugitive slave law that said everyone in the U.S. had to return a runaway slave or get fined 1,000 or jailed for 6 months.

How did the Dred Scott Decision help to cause the war?

The supreme court said the because he was property (not a citizen) he could not file a law suit. This nullified the Missouri compromise.

How did the Election of 1860 help cause the war?

Lincoln ran against a number of opponents who split the slavery vote. Lincoln easily wins. The south sees him as an abolitionist causing south Carolina to immediately seceed.

It drew a line at 36 degrees 30 min north latitude. There would be no slavery aloud above it but slavery would be allowed below it.

Popular soverighty would decide the issue of slavery in Kansas. People from the north and south moved to Kansas in order to vote on the issue. Violence took place between the groups. Border Ruffians beat up people and voted illegally. A proslavery legislative was elected.

Define John Brown

John Brown murdered 5 proslavery settlers in Kansas. He then went to Harpers Ferry Virginia, where he took over the arsenal, where he was hanged after being captured.
