Quetzalcoatl

One of the main Mesoamerican deities, Quetzalcoatl was commonly represented as a feathered serpent. He was patron of goldsmiths as well as priests, and was said to be the inventor of the calendar and of books. Moctezuma mistook Cortez as Quetzalcoatl.
