Abstract Language

Language describing ideas and qualities rather then observable or specific things, people or places

Action

The principle subject or story. This is distinguished from an incidental episode. In other words, it is what a character does in a play, short story, or a fiction prose

Allegory

A story, fictional or nonfictional, in which characters, thing, and events represent qualities or a concept

Allusion

An indirect reference to something with which the reader is supposed to be familiar

Ambiguity

An event or situation that may be interpreted in more than one way

A brief recounting of a relevant episode

Characters that stand in opposition.

A rhetorical device that can be defined as a disappointing situation or a sudden transition in discourse from an important idea to a ludicrous one

Refers to emotions or feelings an author conveys to his readers through descriptions of objects and things

Greek term that means ladder. A point in the narrative where the conflict or tension hits the highest point. Can be referred to as a crisis.

Coincidence

Is a sequence of events that although accidental, seems to have been planned or arranged.

Complications

Is an intensification of the conflict in a story or play

Comprehension

The ability to read text, process it, and understand it's meaning
