Define FSH. Where it is produced and its purpose.
Follicle stimulating hormone. Base of the pituitary gland. Acts on the follicles in the ovary and stimulates growth.
Define LH and its purpose
Leutenizing hormone.
Stimulates ovulation and development of the structure in the ovary called the corpus luteum
What hormones are in the ovaries and their purposes
Estrogen: stimulates growth in the lining of the uterus (thickens)
Progesterone: stimulates growth of secretory glands in the uterine lining.
Ovaries
Contain immature eggs called oocytes.
Almond shape.
Sits below waistline
Oocyte
immature eggs in the ovaries
surronded by follicular cell
Follicle
Oocyte with follicular cells.
Uterine Tube
Oviduct or falliopian tube
1 End adjacent to ovary
1 End leads to the uterus
Uterus
body-site of development in the fetus
Inner lining of uterus
endomerium
Cervix
portion of uterus that projects into the vagina
Cervical Cancer
HPV
Vagina
Receptacle for penis and sperm and birth canal during labor
Negative Feeback
Feedback inhibiton.
Postivie Feeback
Feedback activation
Inhibin
Hormone secreted for ovary also effects the pituitary glands
Pathway of sperm
Sperm=testes
Sperm travels to epididymis
Sperm send from epididymis=deferent duct
Sperm travels from the deferent duct up the spermatic cord into the pelvic cavity over the ureter to the prostate behind the bladder.
Vas deferens joins with the seminal vesicle to form the ejaculatory duct, which passes through the prostate and empties into the urethra. When ejaculation occurs, rhythmic muscle movements propel the sperm forward.
Testes
Site of Sperm production
Found in scrotal sacs
fetus=testes=abdominal cavity
Site of Testrogen production
Sperm Head
Plasma/membrane
DNA chroms.
Acrosome
Digestive enydymes
Seminal Vesicle
Produces thick, mucous-like secretion. Sugars to nourish sperm
Prostate gland
Produces a thin, milky secretion. Helps neutralize the acidity of the vagina
Bulbourethal Glands
Produces a mucous like secretion prior to ejaculation. Helps with lubrication
corpus luteum
Means Yellow body. Produces estrogen and progestogen.
