According to the A1-F18AC-LMM-020, why is it important not to inject extinguishing agent directly into an operating APU?
May cause severe damaage and cause failure of rotating parts resulting in flying shrapnel. (WP 006 00, pg. 8)
What is the first step you take when an APU fire occurs?
Notify the pilot with the appropriate hand signal. (Trainee demonstrates)
How long do you wait for the APU to spool down after the pilot flips the APU shutoff switch?
9-11 seconds (Think 911!)
What if the APU doesn't spool down after the pilot flips the APU shutoff in the cockpit?
Flip the emergency shut off switch in the NWW and wait another 9-11 seconds.
What if the APU is still spooling after you fliped the emergency APU shutoff switch?
Open panel 10L and pull the APU prime circuit breaker
What if after that APU spools down, there is still a fire?
Inject extinguishing agent in the proper bay (exhaust, intake, APU) as needed.
When you're starting up engine two, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, What kind of fire is this?
Internal Engine Fire.
What is the first thing that you should do when you have an internal engine fire?
Notify the pilot that he has a fire. (trainee demonstrates)
Once you tell the pilot that he has a fire, what is the next thing you tell him?
Tell him that he must windmill the engine for 5 minutes. (trainee demonstrates)
What is the windmilling within that five minutes supposed to accomplish?
The windmilling is to provide enough wind through the engine to blow the fire out.
If the windmilling for five minutes were to fail, what is the next step to take?
Be sure the pilot is still windmilling and inject extinguishing agent into the intake.
Why do you want to make sure the pilot keeps windmilling as you inject the extinguishing agent into the inlet?
So the agent can go through all stages of the engine.
As you start up engine two, flames burst out of your servicing doors. What kind of fire do you have?
External fire.
What is the first thing you are going to do when you have an external fire?
Signal to the pilot that his engine is on fire. (Trainee demonstrates)
What if the pilot flips the engine shutoff switch in the cockpit and the engine continues to turn?
Pull the cannon plug and flip the fuel shut off lever in the MLGWW.
What if there is fire in the main landing gear and you cannot get to the fuel shut off switch?
Fight your way with extinguishing agent to get to the fuel shutoff switch.
What if you cut fuel to the engine and the engine stops turning, but the fire persists, what are you supposed to do?
Exinguish the fire with extinguishing agent.

If the fire is coming out of the servicing doors, bounce the agent off of the servicing doors.
How would you open the servicing doors if they are closed, but are on fire?
Inboard to outboard and upwind of the fire.
What is the hand signal for a break fire?
Trainee demonstrates
What do you do if your pilot passes out in the cockpit when engines are running?
Bang on the side of the jet to make sure he is passed out, then cut fuel to both engines and if the APU is still spooling, flip the APU shutoff switch, then enter the cockpit and remove the pilot's oxygen mask and pin the seat. DO NOT TOUCH THE PILOT! Wait until an emergency team comes to the pilot's aid.
What are the procedures to follow when your pilot passes out and the jet is on fire?
Shut down engine 1 with the emergency fuel shut off switch, then grab your seat pins, enter the cockpit and remove the mask from the pilot's face, pin the seat, pull the Manual override handle, release his harness fittings (SEAWARS), pull pilot out of the cockpit and slide him off of the trailing edge.
If you have a jet taxiing into hot breaks with a bullseye on the tire, what do you have to do?
Clear the area 300 feet, taxi the pilot forward so the bullseye is close to the ground, notify the troubleshooters so they can bring the tire deflator kit out, taxi the jet over the TDK.
