causes of staleness
acute- too much stress, accumlative stress, boredom, improper rest and nutrition, low grade illness
symptoms of staleness
slumps, loss of intensity, anxiety, decreasing motivation, chronic fatigue
causes of overtraining
acute stress, accumulative stress- moderate to high level stress, demands are exceeding resources, failure to meet training and competitive goals
symptoms of overtraining
withdraw sullen angry, violent reaction to minor stressors, sleep disturbance, overuse of defense mechansims, chronic anxiety and depression, severe fatigue, inability to be mentally or physically ready for training or competition, increase of up to 5 bpm of resting HR, failure of pulse rate to return to normal for several hours after workout, thermoregulation problems, lactic acid increases, mild hypoclycemia, initial depletion
burnout
exhaustive psychophysiological response exhibited as a result of perception of "no return on the investment"
causes of burnout
failure to cope with high level and constant stress, chronic negative affect, unrealistic expectations from self and others, exaggerated desire to be successful or perfect, constantly failing

depletion- physically and mentally, desire to give up-learned helplessness, excessive use of projection, profound cynicism and alienation, emotional isolatoin- withdraw from others, significant sleep disturbance, productivity goes down in all areas, daramatic changes in value or behaviors, substance abuse, withdrawal from career
