What are the 5 Concepts of Physical Fitness?
Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Range Of Motion and Body Composition.
What are the numbers for Essential Body Fat?
For Men- 2-5% body fat

For Women- 10-13% body fat
What are the three basic processes that must interact to deliver adequate blood and nutrients to the tissues?
Pulmonary Ventilation (getting oxygen to the blood), Cardiac Output (delivery of oxygen to the tissues) and extracting oxygen to complete metabolic process of ATP.
What two things determine oxygen-carrying capacity?
The ability of the alveoli to ventilate in the lungs and the hemoglobin concentration in the lungs.
What is anemia?
Less than 12g of Hb per 100 mL of blood.
What is the formula for Cardiac Output?
Q=HR x SV

Heart Rate (beats per a minute) x Stroke Volume (quantity of blood pumped per heartbeat)
What is normal Cardiac Output during rest?
Approximately 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per minute.
During maximal exercise, what is normal Cardiac Output?
Approximately 20 - 25 liters (5 to 6.5 gallons) per minute.

Up to 30 to 40 liters in highly trained individuals.
What is Ejection Fraction?
The percentage of the end diastolic volume that is ejected with each contraction of the heart.
Where does aerobic production of ATP take place?
In the mitochondria.
What are the simplest form of nutrients?
They are glucose, fatty acids and amino acids.
How is excess glucose stored in the liver and muscle cells?
As glycogen.
What is gluconeogenesis?
It is the process of taking amino acids in the liver to be converted to glucose.
How long can the Phosphagen System provide energy?
Approx. 10 secs. of exertion.
What is Pyruvate?
It is glucose that has been broken down into energy to be used in the mitochondria.
What happens to Pyruvate when an insufficient amount of oxygen is available?
It converts to lactate.
How long does the anaerobic glycolysis energy system provide energy?
Typically from 1 to 3 minutes.
