Bipolar
mania and depression much more than regular up and downs that are experienced by a child for ex a child experiencing mania may be racing through subjects jumping from one thing to another intensely energized. Depression may be viewed by student expressing feelings of worthlessness, guilt or even hurting themselves. as stated before it is not the normal ups and downs that children go through, it impairs them from school, social or other activities
Bipolar treatments
Would advise going to a psychologist as soon as possible because of the dangers of being in a deep depression. to assess the student to treat depression. The psychologist may need to prescribe medication such as mood stabilizers or antidepressants. I would also recommend the student be involved in Cognitive behavioral therapy and or family therapy to address any additional issues the child may be having and how to deal with the intense feelings they are dealing with. Also working on problem solving skills so that during depressed periods the student can have some idea of what they should be doing /reacting like.
