Visual Cliff and Perception
-Presents infants with illusion of a large drop-off... willingness to cross is related to crawling experience.
-Novice = just crawls, no facial expression of fear.
-1 mth experience = fear of heights
Cues for Depth Perception
1. Optical Expansion
2. Binocular Disparity and Stereopsis
3. Pictorial/Monocular cues
Optical Expansion
-Visual image of an object increases in size as the object comes toward us, occludes more of the background
-Expands symmetrically?.. coming for us = duck.
-Babies cant duck. 1 mth = blink
Binocular Disparity
-Two eyes, retinal image is not the same.
-Closer object = greater disparity,
Further away = lower disparity.
Stereopsis
-Cortex computes degree of disparity between differing neural signals, produces perception of depth
