The different Species Concepts
The biological species concept, the ring species concept, the morphological species concept, the genealogical species concept, and the ecological species concept.
Prezygotic Barriers
Temporal isolation (time, habitat isolation (don't live in the same kinds of places, behavioral isolation (no attraction, mechanical isolation (doesn't work), gametic isolation (gametes can't form zygote)
Postzygotic Barriers
Hybrid inviability (genes aren't compatible, hybrid sterility, hybrid breakdown (infertile kids)
Allopatric Speciation
geographic barriers isolate populations and block gene flow.
Sympatric Speciation
A reproductive barrier between the mutants and the parent population.
Gradual Model
Populations evolve gradually as they adapt to their local enviroments.
Punctuated Equilibrium Model
New species diverge in a breif time due to spurts of evolution.
