Preliminary task planning:

We did not do any planning when creating our prelim except for flat plans to see what skills we already knew. We created prelims to see how much our skills have improved during the process of making our actual music magazine.

Final Product planning:

When creating my final product i made sure to do a lot of planning and research to create a very professional product. I researched genre, mise-en-scene, cinematography and many others. My skills have really developed throughout the process and i learned a lot of things about hardware and software. Because of my research and planning i created a product inline with professional practice as i have a more detailed understanding of the forms and conventions of real media products. My time was managed a lot better and all of my work was very well planned.

This was my preliminary front cover. As you can see there was a massive lack of skill when i created this product.

This is my final product front cover. You can see i have developed a lot of skills since my prelim and now have more of an understanding of music magazines and how they are created.

Similarities:

There is very few similarities in these products. One of the similarities is that both of my images were taken in the studio which is very professional and i knew this from the start. Another similarity is the placing of my barcode. On my prelim i attempted to use sell lines effectively. I also have a masthead on both of the magazines.

Differences:

My preliminary product is very unprofessional and this is because at the time i had a lack of knowledge and skill. One of the mistakes made is the Sell lines are coming over the models face which is very unprofessional looking and would never be done in real media product. The model is not in the rule of thirds and the bar code is also far too large. There is very little information on the front. The font is diffucult to read and overall it is not very appealing to the eye. I learnt a lot of skills from the process of creating my prelim to creating my final product.

Hardware skills i have learned:

I developed my skills in photography and learnt how to take a professional looking image. I used professional cameras and studio lights to do so. I learnt how to use a light meter and how to set the aperture and shutter speed setting on the camera in order to ensure that my photo wasn't over or under exposure. This is clearly evident in my final production as compared to my final product. I also developed a lot more skills of how to use the macbooks.

Software skills have i learned:

I have developed my skills in software such as Photoshop and Indesign to make my product as professional as possible. I learnt about the layout and the importance of it. My prelim evidences i had a rough idea of how to lay out a magazine. However, my main task shows how my skills have developed and shows a further understanding of the forms and conventions of professional texts. For instance i followed the rule of thirds and made sure everything was in line and fit well.

Mise-en-scene:

I have learned how to use mise-en-scene effectively to suit the indie genre. When i created my first magazine i didn't think much about the colours and used any colours and they do not go very well, where as on my final product i have created a three colour palette of black white and red that i follow through to my contents page and my double page spread.

Software skills i have learned:

I learned how to position things the same as a professional product. I also learned a lot more about software such as Photoshop. On my prelim front cover the image is very straight forward and there is not particular colour that makes it stand out where as on my final product i have de-saturated the image and created a moody indie tone too it.

This is my preliminary contents page. Once again you can see some basic knowledge of real media products but there was a lot to work on.

This is my real product contents page and you can see how many skills i have learned since the creation of the first image.

Similarities:

There is once again very few similarities between these two products. There is the basic understanding of how to layout a magazine and what to put into the actual content and the use of an image to make it more attractive to the readers eye.

Differences:

I have learned a lot of skills since my first product was made and this is obvious when you compare both products. From research and planning i learned how to create a layout that is more appealing and still decorative and full of content. On my prelim task the title is on the let hand side and it does not particularly stand out where as on my final product it is on the right hand side so when the reader is flicking through the magazine it is easy to notice and stands out a lot more.

Mise-en-scene:

There is very little colour on my preliminary contents page where as on my final product i have followed my three colour palette of black white and red. I also downloaded some brushes on photo shop and made a background for my final product for the page to really stand out.

Differences:

There is also a lot more images used on my final product to make it more appealing to the eye and i have used social networking logos to connect with the reader. There is very little content on my prelim where as on my contents page i have included a lot of information on what is in the magazine, a small bit about the main article in the magazine, a band index and an editors letter.

You can see a massive journey from the first preliminary task to the final product and this is what i was hoping to achieve when i started creating my magazine.

My final product is very professional and i have learned many skills such as how to use Photoshop and Indesign, how to download fonts, how to create a professional layout, rule of thirds and many toherw.
