Commander in Chief (President)

President Barrack Obama. Head of all Armed Forces as mandated by the constitution. Responsible for initiating military action in support of national interest.

Secretary of Defense (SECDEF)

Chuck Hagel. Principle defense advisor to the President.  Formulation of General Defense Policies related to the DoD.

Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV)

Ray Mabus. In charge of Policies/Control of the department of the Navy's Organization, Admin, Operations, and Efficiency.

Chief of Naval Operations (CNO)

Admiral Greenert, Jonathan, W. Navy representative of Joint Chiefs of Staff. Keeps SECNAV and President up-to-date for EXTERNAL department of the Navy duties.

Fleet Comander (COM)

Operating Forces - ships, crafts classifed and organized into command by type.

Type Commander (TYCOM)

Responsible for the ships that make up the OPERATIONAL numbered fleets.

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON)

MCPON Mike Stevens. Navy's senior enlisted member. Serves as senior enlisted representative of the Navy and serves as senior enlisted advisor to the CNO in all matters pertaining to enlisted personnel and their families. (1st MCPON was Delbert Black)

Fleet Master Chief

The principal enlisted advisor to the Fleet.

Force Master Chief

Principal advisors to the Commading Officer (CO). Has the responsibility of keeping the CO up-to-date on all situations, procedures, and Practices that affect the welfare, morale, and well-bring of the enlisted crew.

Command Master Chief (CMC)

OSCS Cooper. Principal advisor to the Commading Officer (CO). Has the responsibility of keeping the CO up-to-date on all situations, procedures, and Practices that affect the welfare, morale, and well-bring of the enlisted crew AND THEIR FAMILIES.

Navy Reserve

Mission is to provide trained units and qualified individuals for active duty in time of war or national emergency and at other times required by national security.

Ready Reserve

The total compliment of reservists in the SELRES, TAR, and IRR programs.

Selected Reserve

Subject to involuntary recall for war or national emergency, or by the president up to 90 days to
support operational requirements without the declaration of national emergency.

Individual Ready Reserves

Subject to involuntary recall for war or national emergency. Members are not required to train.

Fleet Training and Support

Established to provide fleet wide training to sailors worldwide in order to provide support to military operations.

Individual Augmentaion (IA)

Used to fill shortages or can be used when an individual with specialized knowledge or skill sets is required.

Global (GWOT) Support Assignment (GSA)

GWOT Support Assignment (GSA) is the term for negotiated, PCS assigned tour in support of the global war on terrorism (now overseas contingency operations) that meets existing Joint Manning Document (JMD), Request for Forces (RFF) or other GWOT demand signals.  The goal is to mainstream IA assignments with existing detailing practices to increase predictability, stability and notification.
