Essential Service Water Purpose

Safety Related Functions

-provides the primary heat sink for heat removal from the following systems:

--CCW

--CTS

--CRAC

--EDG

--Auxiliary Feed Pump Room Coolers

-Provides an alternate makeup water source for Emergency Diesel Jacket Water System

-Supplies AFW pump suction when the normal water supply (CST) is unvailable

-Provides the capability to automaticaly backflush the ESW pump discharge strainers

Non- Safety Related

-Transferes heat to the ultimate heat sink from the CCW system

-Provides the necessary heat removal to support safe shutdown and satisfy NFPA 805 requirements

Minimum flow from ESW Pump

2000 gpm (>= 3500 for pump efficiency) (max10,000gpm)

ESW Pump Starts

In Neutral - SI in EITHER Unit or Loadshed (LOOP) Sequence signal auto start pump.

In Auto -

-Starts when header pressure is <40 psig. -Receipt of SI in EITHER Unit or Loadshed (LOOP) sequence signal while auto start pump when in AUTO.

MANUAL

ESW PUMP TRIPS

LOADSHED

Overload

Instantaneous Overcurrent

Manual

ESW to EDG SUPPLY VALVE

Normal supply to EDG will open on EDG Run Signal. Alternate Supply to EDG is Manual Only!

Opening Alternate Supply to EDG will cause the EDG to be Inoperable.

ESW from CTS Heat Exhanger Outlet

Opens to provide >2,400 gpm flow to the CTS Heat Exhanger upon receipt of a CTS Signal coincident with the associated Recirculation Sump Valve being open.

ESW Pump discharge valves

Automaically open on associated pump start (Automatic or Manual starts)

*does not Auto Close

ESW Pump Discharge Strainer

-Automatic backwash of strainers at 86.5 inH2O

-And once every 24 hours on timer

ESW from CCW Heat Exchanger Outlet

Automatically reposition to supply 5,000 gpm through the CCW Heat Exchanger on receipt of a Safety Injection Signal

ESW Sequence Start

Loadshed (LOOP) w/o SI - 7 seconds

Loadshed(LOOP) w/ SI or CTS - 19 seconds

Control Air

Control Air to Backwash valves in Both Units is supplied from Unit 1 with Backup Air Bottles taking over at 42#.

ESW Header Loads

AFW Pump Room Coolers (supplied by same train)

EDG Air Aftercoolers/ Lube Oil Coolers

/Jacket Water Coolers

(Also - Provides backup supply to Jacket Water)

CTS Heat Exchangers

CCW Heat Exchangers

CRAC- Condensers

(Also - Backup to Vent Unit Cooling Coils)

Alternate Suction Supply to AFW Pumps

(TDAFP -west, MDAFP's - east)

Radiation Monitor Sample Heat Exchangers

ESW Fan Starts

Odd Fan Autostarts on Pump Start

Even Fan Autostarts at 90F Room Temperature

Essential Service Water Pump

-Loss of Control Power

Loss of 250VDC disables remote breaker operation

ESW Pump Discharge Valves

-Loss of Control Power

Valves fail as is on loss of power

ESW pump discharge strainers

Backwash Valves fail closed on a loss of control air and backup air supplies. Motor operated gate Valves will fail as is.

Loss of Control Air or Control Power for the Inlet and/or Outlet valves for the following components:

CCW Heat Exchangers

Containment Spray Heat Exchangers

Diesel Generator Cooling

Control Room AC

Auxiliary Feedwater emergency Supply

All Fail as is

ESW Transfer switches

Located on the Hotshutdown pannel.

Switch to transfer ESW Pump Control

Switch to transfer ESW Pump Strainer

Parameters used to verify proper ESW Flow

Supply Header Flow - downstream of cross-tie pipe

Return Header Flow - indicate flow at return header before common discharge piping.

Pump and Header pressure

Interfacing component flow

ESW header return temperature

Radiation detection

ESW Technical Specifications

TS 3.7.8

One train of ESW to assist in the removal of core decay following a design basis loss of coolant accident (LOCA). The ESWsystem removes heat from the RHR System (from RHR entry until MODE 5). One ESW train is sufficient to remove decay heat in Modes 5 &6.

**Require 2 offsite sources + EDG + DC (your unit)

1 offsite (EP must be I/S to count) + EDG + DC
