discourse

Discourse is any written or spoken communication. Discourse can also be described as the expression of thought through language. While discourse can refer to the smallest act of communication, the analysis can be quite complex.


There are four main types of discourse, argument, narration, description, exposition

editorial

An editorial is an article that expresses the opinion of the person who or organization that wrote it.

elegy

Elegy is a form of literature which can be defined as a poem or song in the form of elegiac couplets, written in honor of someone deceased. It typically laments or mourns the death of the individual.

emotional appeal

An emotional appeal is a method of persuasion that's designed to create an emotional response. It is used to sway the emotions of an audience to make them support the speaker's argument

epic

An epic is a long narrative poem, which is usually related to heroic deeds of a person of an unusual courage and unparalleled bravery. In order to depict this bravery and courage, the epic uses grandiose style.

epigram

Epigram is a rhetorical device that is a memorable, brief, interesting and surprising satirical statement.

epilogue

An epilogue or epilog is a chapter at the end of a work of literature which concludes the work.Sometimes, a writer may employ an epilogue to cover loose ends of his story i.e. resolves those issues which were brought up by the writer in the story but were not resolved in the climax.

epiphany

An epiphany is that moment in the story where a character achieves realization, awareness or a feeling of knowledge after which events are seen through the prism of this new light in the story.

epitaph

Epitaph is an inscription written on a grave. Generally, it is a brief composition, having figurative sense in a verse or in prose form, written to pay tribute to a deceased person, or to remember a past event.

euphemism

euphemism refers to polite, indirect expressions which replace words and phrases considered harsh and impolite or which suggest something unpleasant.

euphony

euphony is the use of of words and phrases that gives pleasing and soothing effects to the readers due to the repeated vowels a the smooth consonants sounds. It can be used in parallel with other literary devices including rhyme, assonance and alliteration
