Metaphor

A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action which is not literally applicable. When something is something else.

The repetition of vowel sounds to create internal rhyme within phrases of sentences

A steam of words used with the same consonants at the beginning. An example of this is Drowsed and Drowned

Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. Such as, "I'm so hungry i could eat a horse!"

Connotation

An idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal meaning or primal meaning. Such as 'discipline' has unhappy connotations of punishment and repressions

The use of language to represent objects, actions to create a mental picture

Repetition

The action of repeating something that has already been said or written. Such as 'reeled and reeled'.

Rhyme

Correspondence of sounds between words or ending of words, especially in poetry.
