Additionnally, at this early stage in the novel, Jack still believes in Rules and order, while later on his group becomes pure chaos.

Also, it is ironic that he uses the English as an example, as this is the third World war they are in, each war having the English kill millions. Moreover, the English are the creators of concentration camps, regarded as pure evil by most. This shows that even the English can descent into evil and violence.
