Plot
The structuring of the events in a play; the story
Conflict
Struggle between opposing forces in a narrative
Exposition
The presentation of background information, usually early in the story, that a reader or a theatrical audience must be aware of, especially about situations that exist and events that have occurred before the action of the narrative begins.
Rising action
One of the stages in plot development in which conflicts and complications propel the plot to the climax
Climax
The turning point or point of highest interest in a narrative; the point at which the most important part of the action takes place and the final outcome or resolution of the plot becomes inevitable
Falling action
The events in a narrative that take the reader to he conclusion or denouement, in which the resolution of the climactic action is presented.
Resolution or Denouement
The conclusion of a plot's conflicts and complications; the resolution follows the climax and the falling action in the plot
Foreshadowing
The introduction of specific words into a narrative to suggest or anticipate later events that are central to the action and it's resolution
Turning point
The critical point in a narrative that leads inevitably to the resolution
Suspense
A state of excited uncertainty
Complication
Something that introduces a difficulty, problem, or change in a plot
